Job Summary
Due to recent expansion and being awarded new contracts, WM Walsh Surfacing are actively recruiting for a Works Co-ordinator to join the business. The Works Co-ordinator is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating surfacing and reinstatement works within the utilities sector. Working as part of the Planning Department, the role ensures that all works are efficiently programmed, resourced, and delivered in line with contractual requirements and operational priorities. The position reports to the Planning Manager and Contract Director and requires effective use of works management systems to track and manage activities.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and coordinate daily and weekly surfacing and reinstatement works programmes
Schedule jobs in line with operational capacity, priorities, and contractual deadlines
Allocate resources including labour, plant, and materials to maximise efficiency
Use works management systems to raise, update, and track jobs and progress in real time
Liaise with operational teams, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure smooth delivery of works
Coordinate with Streetworks teams to align permits, notices, and road space bookings
Monitor job progress and adjust schedules to respond to delays, emergencies, or changing priorities
Ensure all works are planned in accordance with client specifications and service level agreements (SLAs)
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all planned and completed works
Provide regular updates and reports to the Planning Manager and Contract Director
Identify and escalate risks or constraints impacting delivery
Systems & Data Management
Operate and maintain works management systems (e.g., scheduling and job tracking software)
Ensure data accuracy and timely updates across all systems
Generate reports on work volumes, performance, and productivity
Support continuous improvement through effective use of planning data and insights
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong planning, scheduling, and organisational skills
Ability to manage multiple workstreams and changing priorities
Proficient in using works management and scheduling systems
Good understanding of surfacing and reinstatement operations
Strong communication and coordination skills
Attention to detail and accuracy in data management
Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach
Qualifications & Experience
Previous experience in a planning or coordination role within utilities, highways, or construction
Experience in surfacing and reinstatement operations (desirable)
Familiarity with works management systems
Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
Understanding of street works and permitting processes (advantageous)
Reporting Structure
Reports to the Planning Manager and Contract Director
Works closely with Streetworks Co-ordinators, Project Managers, Supervisors, and SHEQ teams
Liaises with subcontractors, suppliers, and operational field teams
Working Conditions
Office-based role within a fast-paced planning environment
May require occasional flexibility to support operational demands
